Expression.. Happiness... Resolution !

Havent really made resolutions for long.. but heres one after many years. I hope to write more often this year, and with no intention of wanting to prove anything or make this world a better place.. .. but just with an expectation of making myself happier because I expressed ‘me’!

Writing is a big release for me. I have a hand written ‘To do’ list everyday. One side of the paper will be things related to work and the other half of ‘to dos’ for the house. They are often on equal footing  .. leaving me little time to do anything for myself. So now in the ‘Home’ side of ‘to dos’ I also include what I want to do for myself in the day.. which now includes  ..” write something” ! The aim is to cut off every item on there by the EOD, else it moves on the next days .. ‘To do’!

I think there’s a lot of energy one needs to put into the act of ‘talking’. You need to have the context set, you need to have other distractions out, if in a group, you have to be louder than the loudest person in the group, and finally the most important, you need to have the right ‘ear’ to hear you out. So most often I have resorted to ‘writing’ as my vent out. Years of diary writing finally stopped some years back. And then I took to blogging. But never was very consistent, because I felt very vulnerable in this medium. People tend to judge you, put you somewhere in their own matrix of impressions. But somewhere down the timeline of one’s life, such things stop to matter! So thus.. here I am . Even if you smile through any one of these sentences I have penned down.. I have achieved my connection !!!

I have in the past 5-6 years as part of slowing down my life, started to notice a lot of things, spaces, happenings et al around me. Being very involved in a lot of activities in your life, sometimes makes one miss small but intriguing events around you.

One such happening is this unique jodi in my balcony. Last year, a friend of Sagar’s gifted us a jackfruit sapling to plant in our farm house. I put it in a big pot in our balcony to make sure it was sturdy enough to be planted in the wild. Since I realised composting wasn’t working out for me in my apartment complex, I tried another indigenous concoction. The dry kitchen waste of the day I put aside in one bowl and fill it up with water at night. This fermenrted vegetable broth would go to my balcony plants the next morning. The flowering of all the plants have improved, so I am assuming it is working!

This activity led to another serendipity. I noticed that a tomato plant was growing along side the jackfruit sapling. And lo.. in a span of a month I had 5 little green tomatoes on them!! I was awestruck by this symbiosis. The live-in relationship that the tomato plant choose to have with the jackfruit sapling was amazing…

It was the same water I put on all the pots, but the tomato choose the jackfruit.. I wonder why? Any which ways, it glared on me, as to how important it is to work on getting your soil fertile and not really worry about the produce. If the nourishment is right in the environment, magic is bound to happen! ‘ Environment’ could be also be your home, or office or the society you live in.

‘What goes in’ definitely ‘comes out’… so I think if we are conscious about what goes into our respective environments, the output I guess could be desirable too. Not that I knew the concoction that I made would have magically effects, but it certainly gave some tomato seeds an opportunity to further express itself. I am sure the 5 green tomatoes are happy like me .. this year!

Wishing everyone a very happy new 2024 year ahead..

Temple and me..

My childhood has always been around temples.. Every ‘happy’ occasion we visited the temple. It was nice.. the fact that you think of someone else before oneself. Our birthday, anniversary, Diwali, Dusshera.. everything began with the visit to the temple. It was like there was someone else to thank for all that is happening in our lives.   There were people who believed, Gods preferred some days .. the temples used to be choked with devotees on these days.. For eg: Visiting the Hanuman temple on a Saturday gave you extra power.. The temple ran empty on other days.   Was this only a family affair or did I get conditioned enough to continue it on my own too? Well yes.. I did visit temples, sometimes to find answers, peace and most of time when I had no where else to go. During college one visit to the church on a random afternoon has etched a beautiful and soothing memory in me… Yet to visit a mosque and map my feelings 😊   When I started living alone,...

Me and the (W)hole!

2015-16 I undertook a PG Diploma course from Ecological Society of Pune. Unlike other courses which add on to your resume, this course, made me feel like reducing things written on my resume! An MBA in Marketing. MS in Retail Sciences and my overall professional career of looking at how to make others ‘buy more’ and myself ‘spend more’ suddenly seemed like a horrible concoction of boredom, despair and wrong doing! Way ahead, Aspirations, Fast paced future and Power and position were ingrained to be the manner in which one led one’s life. However after this course- Water, Air ,Food and Pollution seemed to take the space of what defined life. These basic elements which I always took for granted and really didn’t know much about, suddenly were brought in front of me to look through a magnifying glass. The river, mountains, forests, and the innumerable species of fauna and flora that exists in every 2 square feet of earth were all unknown to me! Did each of these connect to me...

Dream.. fears.. reality…

I started on this journey of romanticizing farm living a few years back. A course in Ecology opened my horizons to alternate solutions, alternate lifestyle, alternate thinking.. well just an alternate to everything  that I was doing  J There was a rising energy within me to bring all that I had been exposed to into action. The wave led me to joining a lot of NGOs working in the field of environment. So I planted trees, watered trees, joined movements where we spent 1 hour a week engaging citizens. I was having my own business of home delivery of organic and natural produce. I already knew a lot of people in the NGO industry and once I started working regularly I started getting involved more. Soon I moved from being a business person to being a Volunteer J . I was noticing the change in myself, but I think being a gregarious person, I wanted my daughter and husband also to come along. So our outings on weekends mostly were on a hill or by the river! Engaging with people t...
